What is intuitive eatingIntuitive eating….it sounds kind of fluffy right? I thought that myself when I picked up a book by the same title (in fact there might have been an eye roll too). 

The concept of Intuitive Eating challenged a lot of what I have been taught to say and do as a nutritionist and yet was so sensible and captivating that, I read Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch’s* book in one sitting. Then read it again and was 100% sold. I’ve been practicing their principles, and those of similar authors & academics, with my clients ever since. 

Intuitive eating is game changing for yo-yo dieters and those who have “tried-it-all-but-nothing-works”.

It creates a power shift between you and food. Suddenly you’re in the drivers seat, you find yourself able to make rational decisions around food. You can decide when to say yes to a slice of cake or a scoop of mash potato and when to say “no thank you I don’t feel like that right now”. There is nothing of limits, there are no “good” or “bad” foods.

When you are eating intuitively there are no moral tags on food. Your food choices won’t make you virtuous – contrary to what many insta-famous clean eaters will tell you!

Intuitive Eating equips you with the skills to accept your natural body size and shape. It challenges the ideas we are sold by the dieting industry about what to eat, when to eat and how much to eat. You will have an internal framework to hang your food decisions on rather than relying on external cues (like clean eating plans and diet books/apps!).

You learn how to recognise different types of hunger, how to select foods that will satisfy (rather than fill a space for a short time), and how to stop eating when you are comfortable.

Intuitive eating addresses body image, recognition of body cues, ideas about food (and will reconcile faulty beliefs with new helpful food beliefs), and support you in the selection of satisfying foods.

It’s not an over night quick fix, I work with clients individually at their own pace through a series of 12 workbooks and Skype sessions & my group programs are intensive sessions running for 6 weeks.
